If you have an old criminal charge or conviction, you may be eligible for a FREE clinic to help set-aside the charges or seal your records. During the clinic, eligible participants will meet with an attorney who will walk through each step of the process and complete the required legal paperwork.
If you are eligible, Legal Aid of Nebraska staff will contact you to set an appointment time and make sure you have the required documents. Douglas and Sarpy County residents only.
No walk-ins, must apply in advance.
You may be eligible to set aside your conviction if you were convicted of a crime, and you were:
* Sentenced to jail for one year or less; and/or
* Sentenced to probation and successfully completed probation; and/or
* Sentenced to pay a fine and paid the fine; and
* You have not committed any crimes for the last two years (this is not a legal requirement, it is recommendation that we advise, based on our experience with the court granting the set aside)
* Are a resident of Douglas or Sarpy County
You are NOT eligible if:
* You have pending criminal charges anywhere in the US
* You are required to register as a sex offender
* Your conviction was related to vehicular homicide
* OR if you have had any charges brought within the last 2 years
You may be eligible for a record sealing if:
* Criminal charges were filed and brought against you and those charges were dismissed
* You are a resident of Douglas or Sarpy County
